Easter Island Experience

Travelscope Production Sound Mixer, Joe Stearns, reports on his Easter Island experience. image

July 22nd-24th
-Starting off my second adventure with Travelscope to one of the most secluded locations on earth: Easter Island. Up until now in life, all I’ve ever known about this place was through comic strips such as “The Far Side” where the gigantic heads were a common running joke. So as I begin my 3rd flight on the 3rd day of the trip, my excitement builds to see an island which I would never thought I may see in my wildest dreams.  Three days of travel, sleeping in airports, drinking carafes of various South American juices, and blogging. Ready to go!
-Finally arrived after another 5 hour flight. Greeted with a lei and my luggage in tact, on a beautiful island that emerges out of nowhere.
July 25th-30th
-The first couple of days of delving into the island’s mystery were engulfed with tons of Moai mounted in scenic ocean and cliff environments. Lunches with various forms of fresh fish sandwiches and delicious island coffee. Joseph led us through the Catholic Church history, a dripping cave that surfaced over the ocean, and to various stone abandoned hill houses with grass roofs.
-The later part of the journey we hiked through a quarry filled with Moai statues and some being freshly excavated out of the ground! Our team ventured around the Orongo volcano and learned of the ancient bird man competition. Snorkeling, boat rides and fish feeding abound in our final days on the island. Great stay at our Explora Lodge and a warm welcome by the Rapa Nui people! Travelscope always knows how to go big and provide an outstanding cultural experience. I’m proud to be a part of the production.

I’m coming w/ you next time, Joe Stearns! I don’t care if you have to stuff me in your suit case. Sounds like it was an amazing trip! Can’t wait to see the final edited product. When will that be, btw?
