Ethiopia - Where the Past and the Future Meet
Posted on March 29, 2011 By Joseph
Ethiopia is a nation that has a history that spans thousands of years. When you are there you are truly stepping back in time. Travelscope has produced seven shows in Africa and even with that experience under our belt, our time in Ethiopia surprised us by how different it is from the rest of the continent. Perhaps it’s the fact that Ethiopia was never colonized that makes the culture so different. It is a large country – more than twice the size of Texas – and contains a lot of everything – diverse people, religions, landscapes…it is a country like no other we have experienced. If you are looking for something completely different from your everyday experience, Ethiopia is the destination for you. Yet while the country offers a glance at the past, it’s good to know that getting to and around the country is made easier by Ethiopian Airlines, which is pushing the country into the future. When it comes to flying I want everything to be as up-to-date as possible. My flight to Ethiopia on their new 777 aircraft (the longest range commercial aircraft in the world) was as comfortable as any I’ve taken recently and the food onboard gave me a taste of Ethiopia hours before we actually set down. Once in Ethiopia we discovered that in many of the areas we were visiting the distances were long, the roads developing and flying is not only the fastest and most comfortable way to travel around the country, but the safest. Besides expensive charter flights, Ethiopian Airlines is the only carrier in Ethiopia and it is working hard to become the obvious choice for travelers heading not only to Ethiopia, but to the rest of Africa and beyond. We’re excited about the two episodes we shot in Ethiopia and look forward to delivering them to our viewers next year. So, stayed tuned!
