Hong Kong’s Wine & Dine Festival has quickly established itself as one of the world’s premier epicurean festivals. Hong Kong Tourism Board launched its first Wine & Dine Festival in November 2009. Held outdoors on the West Kowloon waterfront and against the breathtaking backdrop of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong’s iconic skyline, it featured over 280 booths as well as wines from 19 different countries and regions. The Wine & Dine Festival backdrop has set a new standard for food and wine festivals as only Hong Kong can claim such a majestic setting of harbor, mountains and skyscrapers, truly making it the world’s leading “Urban Wine Territory”.
In 2011, the 3rd annual Wine & Dine Festival was a spectacular success and generated attendance of 170,000 wine enthusiasts, a 55% increase versus 2010 attendance of 110,000. The festival was followed by November’s Food & Wine month in Hong Kong, which offered an incredible array of epicurean events and savings throughout the city. And wine continues to be an important aspect of Hong Kong’s appeal and natural complement to the superb Cantonese cuisine. As one of most celebrated culinary capitals, Hong Kong is a natural festival site, offering a wide variety of cuisines that embrace with artful ease the great Eastern and Western influences. Stay tuned for the 4th Wine & Dine Festival, which will be held on the West Kowloon Promenade from Nov 1 - 4, 2012. For more information visit www.discoverhongkong.com/usa

Scheduled Release - June 2012
The spirit of Magellan is alive and well as Joseph circumnavigates the tip of South America on an expedition passenger ship. He sails through Tierra del Fuego and around Cape Horn on his latest Chilean adventure. As the ship follows Darwin’s watery trail, he travels into the Beagle Channel and through the “Avenue of Glaciers” where the majestic Spain, Romanche, Germany, Italy, France and Holland glaciers seem close enough to touch. Along the way he encounters Elephant Seals, Magellanic Penguins and sea birds aplenty. A highlight of the journey is a stop on Isla Del Horno – Horn Island – where Joseph stands at the end of the Americas and visits the memorial to the ancient mariners who lost their lives on their Cape Horn passage.

Switzerland guarantees a wonderful Christmas Season: dreamy, snow-covered landscapes and picturesque Christmas markets in the cities.
In Switzerland, the Christmas season traditionally starts on the 1st of December when the children get to open the first “window” of their “Advent Calendar”, a calendar with 24 little flaps opening onto windows with Christmas images.
On Dec 6th it’s time for the Samichlaus (Swiss Santa) and his black-clad companion Schmutzli who roam the streets listening to poems recited by wide-eyed children. After that, Samichlaus allows them to reach deep into his bag for a smattering of tangerines, nuts or gingerbread.
The evening of December 24th is when children get to see the decorated tree in its entire splendor for the first time. In the warm glow of the candle-lit tree (the Swiss much prefer candles over artificial lights) songs are being sung, the gospel is read and presents are being exchanged while all fill their bellies with countless Swiss holiday dishes.

As with every Travelscope adventure, the journey includes cultural experiences in a local church, living museum, market, primary school and health clinic. Greece – Cruising the Isles
A Greek Island cruise sounds like a bit of a cliché, but not when Joseph and the crew of Travelscope make landing on some of the Goddess Athena’s special children. There’s plenty of ancient history and beautiful scenic bays to explore, but the real life of the voyage is the opportunity to pull the small cruise ship right up to the docks and discover the heart and soul of the Greek isles and the people who inhabit them. There’s always a story to be told and a laugh to share around a table of great food, resina wine and music. Joseph catches the unique rhythm of each special island on Travelscope’s own Grecian odyssey.

Rwanda – In Search of Chimpanzees
Joseph continues his Rwanda adventure and turns his attention to the region’s other primate populations. Chimpanzee, Olive Baboons, Mona, Blue and Black and White Colobus Monkeys are just a few of the thirteen primate species that populate the Nyungwe National Park. The rest of the area’s flora and fauna is equally impressive with more than 140 orchid species and 275 bird species, dozens of them found only in the highlands of Central Africa. In addition to the wildlife wonders, Joseph has personal encounters in the local Banda (thatched-hut) communities and meets the reclusive and vanishing Batwa people. In Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, Joseph highlights the 1994 Rwanda genocide and the efforts that the country has made to overcome its past at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre.

For hundreds of years St. Moritz has been a Swiss resort with the emphasis on “the Ritz” –– a place where the royal, wealthy and famous can recreate in luxury and where the term “Champagne Climate” refers to more than the 300 plus days of sunshine each year. Joseph travels to St. Moritzin the Engadine Region of Switzerland to discover the Romansch soul beneath the five-star hotels, the sparkle of high-end shops and the Rolls-Royce fashions. Along the way he gets above the St. Moritz’s surface attractions by and climbing into the Rhaetian Alps above 6,000 feet where there’s mountain peaks, alpine meadows and “everyone is a friend.”

You can hardly get enough of gazing at this spectacular landscape, with its magnificent Alpine panorama, its clear blue lakes and its magical light, which in the past has inspired a host of poets and painters. And indeed, still continues to do so.
Switzerland – Scaling the Jungfrau Region
Surrounded by Switzerland’s mountain landscape, it’s easy to see why the Swiss understand the value of nature. It is not a luxury reserved for a few, but a treasure shared by all. Joseph travels into the Grindelwald Valley to experience the grandeur of perhaps Switzerland’s most typically-Swiss region – the Jungfrau. Constantly shadowed by the towering heights of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks, all above 12,000 feet, Joseph partakes of the culture at local street fairs and festivals. He gets to take part in a cheese-making demonstration and run with the goats through the streets of Wengen, a car-free mountain town. To get an up-close experience with the mountains he hikes to the Gleckstein, a mountain hut for climbers, and literally tops off his adventure with a train journey to the highest train station in Europe, the Jungfraujoch.

The first ascent of the Jungfrau on August 3, 1811 caused quite a sensation. In those days the area in today’s UNESCO Region was strictly reserved for a few daring adventurers. These days, thanks to the mountain railways, footpaths and biking trails everyone can experience a variety of adventures in the Jungfrau Region. The mountains around Grindelwald, Wengen, Mürren and Lauterbrunnen continue to hold a great fascination and, in the meantime, offer something to suit everyone from action-seeking sports enthusiasts to aficionados looking for relaxation. A trip from Wengen or Grindelwald to the Jungfraujoch, Europe’s highest train station at 3,453 metres above sea level, transports visitors into the magical world of eternal snow and ice. From the opposite side of the valley above Mürren, on the top of the almost 3,000 metre-high Schilthorn, day-trippers can enjoy the best views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau triumvirate. Far below in the Lauterbrunnen valley the spectacular Trümmelbachfalls have been open to visitors for around 100 years. Here 20,000 litres of water per second thunder down into the “valley of 72 waterfalls”. For more information visit www.MyJungfrau.ch.
Ireland – The Dingle Peninsula and Beyond
Joseph starts his Ireland adventure in the town of Shannon and then heads southwest to the Dingle Peninsula for some Irish merrymaking at the Puck Festival in Killorglin. While on the Peninsula he uncovers a few important Irish secrets like how to draw a proper pint, spout a wee bit of Gaelic without getting tongue-tied, how to root your horse home at the Dingle races and which pub has the best Irish soda bread and stew. Joseph also finds out if there’s a smidgen of the Shamrock in his past when he learns more about the Irish emigration to America and hears the story of the inhabitants of the Blasket Islands – a modern-day Irish migration saga.

Joseph breaks away from heat for a cooling and relaxing stay among the gentle gulf breezes of the South Texas Coast. In every season the pleasures are easy in this laid back Southern town where often the best thing to do is nothing. Guatemala’s Semana Santa - Easter Week
Throughout Guatemala, Easter Week (Semana Santa) is celebrated as the most significant and festive season on every religious and social calendar. Joseph travels to Guatemala City, Antiqua and Lago de Atitlan to discover that while the observance is rich in Roman Catholic ceremony and tradition at the same time it leaves room for the popular devotion and beliefs of the indigenous Mayan culture. In addition, the communal creation of hundreds of beautifulalfombras (flower-strewn, multi-colored “carpets”) that line the streets in front of the religious processions is something to behold. The pomp, color, emotion and devotion all combine to create a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience.

Mozambique, Africa
On Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago Kuta Katila means, “Roll your reed mat out on the sand, lay back and relax.” Always ready to follow local customs, Joseph does exactly that at the Indigo Bay Island Resort and Spa on Bazaruto Island and at the Azura Resort on Benguerra Island. Joseph continues to practice the fine art of Kuta Katila on the sparkling beaches and in the turquoise waters of the Bazaruto Marine National Park. Snorkeling, sailing, horseback riding and sand-boarding down 100-meter high dunes are activities that are all on the agenda, as well as, a sunset swim with horses. Activities aside, as always, the highlight of the show is Joseph’s friendly encounters with the islands’ people and the opportunity to share cultural experiences.

Where else will you find so much that is typically Swiss concentrated in so small an area? Lucerne boasts a charming city centre dating from the Middle Ages, famous Lake Lucerne with Europe’s biggest inland navigation fleet and a fantastic panorama of famous mountains. The region around Lake Lucerne offers a variety of exciting excursions within easy reach of the city, e.g. Mount Pilatus, Lucerne’s “house mountain”.

Cappadocia, Turkey
Cappadocia, in Turkey’s rural heart, is a natural wonder and a cultural treasure chest. Delightful, flavorful Fredericksburg, located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country wine region, warms hearts with its historic architecture, proud history and friendly hospitality. This town of 11,000+ residents (founded in 1846 by German settlers) welcomes over one million visitors annually; mainly because it’s a fun place to visit – with one-of-a-kind, sophisticated shopping opportunities, unique lodging (300+ B&Bs/guesthouses/inns alone), 250+ annual festivals and events, live music scene, and American treasures like the National Museum of the Pacific War, nearby Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park (the Texas White House and Ranch) and Luckenbach, of Waylon and Willie fame. Flavorful because over 70 restaurants tempt the palette with everything from Texas Noveau cuisine to BBQ; but what sets taste buds to salivating are the German bakeries. And Fredericksburg is lovely, with breathtaking Hill Country scenic views – whether from atop Enchanted Rock, or from a porch swing as the sun sets over rolling hills and fields of wildflowers.

During his journey he also partakes of New Brunswick’s natural beauty and the world of adventure that awaits every visitor to this Canadian province year round.

An ancient Acadian tradition! Literally translated, “tintamarre” means “loud racket.” Every year, on the 15th of August (the Acadian national holiday) at 6:00 pm, some 25,000 people march down a closed-off segment of Saint-Pierre Boulevard in Caraquet, making as much noise as possible with anything they can get their hands on: pots, pans, shakers, drums, tin cans, whistles, etc. The sheer spirit, the raw energy and the wild enthusiasm of this sea of people adorned in Acadian colours and waving Acadian flags is simply impossible to top.

And in Summer there’s always the Acadian Festival in August to celebrate. Other celebrations in New Brunswick include apple picking, farmers markets, crafts fairs, the Atlantic Balloon Fiesta in Sussex, musical fireworks during the Kedgwick Fall Festival and the internationally renowned Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival in Fredericton in September. The capital city of Fredericton is located on the banks of the scenic 450 mile long St. John River and a good place to base your New Brunswick explorations. Everything’s “the very best” to a New Brunswicker and the best places to meet these friendly, upbeat folk is at Fredericton’s many downtown restaurants, cafes, pubs and at its homey Saturday market. One of the highlights of Fredericton’s downtown tour is the Provincial Capital Building an architectural and historic treasure. By traveling just twenty minutes from Fredericton along the St. John River you can step back in time and meet some 19th century New Brunswick loyal subjects at Kings Landing Historical Settlement. After the American Revolution more than 15,000 British Loyalists moved up the St. John River and created settlements such as Kings Landing. Brittany, France
Elves and dragons, maids and knights hiking and biking, oysters and crepes these are some of the surprises and pleasures Joseph discovers in Brittany, France the Celtic land of myths and legends.
As you would expect in a region enamored with its history and legends, Brittany is filled with historic towns in fact, there’s even an official classification Cities of Art and History that is approved by the Ministry of Culture. A sub-species is Small Towns of Character and it’s into that category that many of the region’s picture postcard towns fall. The cultural arts and crafts of Brittany are evidenced in the traditional dress including the more than 1,200 varities of headdresses worn by women at festivals. King Arthur and the Holy Grail is one of the world’s most enduring legends and it all began in Brittany. It is in the Forest of Broceliande that King Arthur received the sword Excalibur and the fairy Viviane fell in love with and imprisoned Merlin. The dense forest surrounds the lakeside village of Paimpont where more than 50 kilometers of hiking trails may lead to magical happenings!

Geographically diverse, Alberta is a mix of Rocky Mountain peaks and icefields, northern forests, rural and prairie landscapes, dramatic hoodoos, carved canyons, sandy beaches and Chinook winds. We offer world class fishing, outstanding hiking and horseback riding, white water rafting and canoeing with over 280 golf courses to choose from in summer. In winter, we offer 6 world class ski resorts with downhill or cross country skiing, dog sledding, ice canyon walking, snowmobiling and snow shoeing. Come and enjoy our western hospitality, culture and heritage, the northern lights, aboriginal tourism and an extensive collection of dinosaur fossils. It is no wonder that Alberta is known as Canada’s Rocky Mountain Playground. www.travelalberta.com or vacation packages are available at www.GoCanadianRockies.com. (click here for more information)
